Wind speed picks up significantly at the north pole but less so with the south pole. This may be due to the location of wind currents. The ocean around the southern hemisphere also tend to be calmer outside of typhoon season, leading to less movement overall.
It is wise to bring a wind breaker in places with high wind as well as masks for face protection. Be careful of high seas as the wind will create higher and choppier waves. If there's any tornado warnings, seek shelter immediately.
